What services does the Social Services program provide?

Do you have a question about what programs are available for you in the community, how to pursue citizenship, or do you need help with reading a letter or bill? Social Services can help. We work in three main areas:

General Information and Referral

  • Sometimes you may just need some information and are not sure who to ask for that information. We can make the call for you, look something up on the internet, or direct you to the appropriate office, agency, or organization for more information.
  • Sometimes you may need assistance with reading notices you’ve received in the mail or letters that are written in English.
  • We frequently assist with filling out applications. Typically these applications are for Unemployment Insurance, State Disability Insurance, Medi-Cal, General Assistance, Food Stamps, SSI, CalWORKs, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Senior Housing, etc.
  • We can also refer you to programs that you may be eligible for like energy assistance programs for low-income families (such as: HEAP and CARE) and paratransit services.

Citizenship Services
Are you planning to apply for citizenship?

  • We can help you with your citizenship questions regarding eligibility, the process, and timing.
  • We can help you fill out your naturalization application.
  • We run citizenship classes and offer individual preparation for naturalization interviews.

Notary Public Service
Do you have a document you need notarized?

Some examples of frequently notarized documents include Survival Certificates, Power of Attorney, deeds and contracts.

Other Services

  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA).
  • Off-site presentations or workshops on topical subjects like Medicare Part D.
